Road Trip I am no stranger to this dark, when nature's voices come alive, and I stop breathing just so I can hear more clearly, and it always surprises me when I hear them speak. We always hit the road right around this time, right around where I left you and I've put many, many miles between that place where you kissed me one last time. And sometimes the tar smells like white river wine, when the city gives way to the earth that will reclaim it someday, and it makes me smile. It's always easier when the pain isn't mine. And I'm OK, I will be OK, because that's how life is it will leave me behind no matter how tired I am, no matter how I tried, even if it's just to rest in your arms, just for a while. Here and there the cows, here and there the pine trees, here and there your voice. There was even a camel, I named him Sam. He looked at me with sad eyes, still chewing cud, and I looked away guiltily, because even he acuses me of breaking your heart. I love, I love and I can't seem to stop leaving, and always saying anywhere but here. The road she goes on and on, touching everything except skin. And oh how I remember your skin. I kicked off my shoes, walked on the sand, and watched the fishermen standing barefoot on the rocks, waiting. I looked down on those rocks, and I figured I'd ask them where I went wrong because they've been around far longer than anyone can recall how they got there in the first place. And the Ocean, always the sceptic, one hand on its chin, looking down at me and shaking its head, they never learn. I had A Plan. It involved winning you back someday, fluffly white rabbit dreams of an us again someday. And then I get distracted for a second, and you move on without telling me. I smile, it is always easier when the pain is mine. Steam - 19.01.07 |
